1stClass@Number 2 trains a teaching assistant and a link teacher to successfully implement an evidence-based maths intervention for children in lower Key Stage 2.
It comes ready-made with detailed lesson plans and extensive resources, and trains a teaching assistant to deliver 30 half-hour sessions to a group of up to four Y3 or 4 children who need support to achieve the Y2 expectations.
The lessons focus on number and calculation, developing children’s mathematical understanding, mental strategies, communication and reasoning skills.
A delivery van theme runs throughout, engaging children in real-life contexts that are both stimulating and fun. Each topic starts with a simple assessment that helps the teaching assistant tailor sessions to the children’s needs.
