Step Up with Confidence – Lead with Impact
The Stepping Up programme is designed exclusively for experienced Deputy and Assistant Headteachers (with three or more years in post) who are ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. 

Whether covering in the absence of the headteacher or preparing for a headship role, this programme will equip senior leaders with the strategic mindset and practical tools needed to lead whole-school improvement with clarity, confidence, and credibility.

With only 30 fully funded places available, this high-impact programme supports leaders in developing their strategic capacity to influence decision-making, drive school improvement, and operate as a trusted partner to the headteacher in leading and managing change at a whole-school level.

What will it cover?

This programme offers a comprehensive, hands-on exploration of essential strategic leadership areas. Sessions include human resource management, leadership styles, school finance and budgeting, vexatious complaints and social media issues and more. 

These sessions are designed to enhance strategic decision-making and foster an inclusive culture. 

The programme integrates both local and national frameworks to ensure alignment with the latest priorities in educational leadership.

Any supplementary info

  • 30 funded places available for Liverpool schools
  • 3 full-day face-to-face sessions
  • Participants are expected to commit to the full year’s programme

Who should attend?

  • Deputy and Assistant Headteachers with a minimum of three years’ experience in the role, ready to take on broader strategic leadership responsibilities.
  • Ideal for those who step in for the headteacher and/or are preparing for future headship.
