Course Overview
Building on the key messages from Ofsted's Strong Foundations document alongside the recommendations from the EEF Improving Mathematics in EYFS & KS1 report, this professional development input has been designed to shine a spotlight on how to enhance provision for spatial reasoning, leading to securing foundational knowledge in shape, space and measures
Why Attend?
- Strong spatial reasoning is a key indicator of success in mathematics therefore provision of meaningful experiences becomes vital to ensuring children can thrive, succeed and achieve as they journey through the intended mathematics curriculum
- Within Ofsted's Coordinating mathematical success subject report (July 2023) we are encouraged to consider the coherent construction of geometry curriculum, its links to the other mathematical domains and its presence within our curriculum offer. This is echoed by the work of the Early Childhood Maths Group who identify that spatial reasoning is a vital and often overlooked aspect of mathematics.
This course brings these findings to life—offering practical strategies that help every child master the building blocks of spatial reasoning, shape, space and measures
What will it cover?
- Practical guidance to enable practitioners to reflect on current pedagogy, practice and provision in order to deliver high-quality, impactful teaching of shape, space and measures which will lay the foundations for geometrical understanding and future mathematical success
Who should attend?
Early Years practitioners, KS1 practitioners, SEND Specialist provision practitioners
